A terminal, a fire station, a school commons, a teen center, a restaurant you have eaten at. Forty-odd years of work in one county tends to end up as the buildings everyone uses without ever asking who built them.
What we do
Cardinal runs the whole job rather than handing you off. Architectural work is in house, the subcontractors answer to us, and the same office that priced the building is the one that closes it out.
Where most projects start
Bring a sketch, a photo of someone else's building, or nothing at all. We draw the schematics, work out how the building has to flow, and nothing gets built until you have approved the blueprint.
Design-Build detailsThe construction side, from the first purchase order to the last coat of stain.
One line of communication between you and every subcontractor, carried on purchase orders, RFIs, submittals and change orders, through to punchlist and O&M documents at close.
Concept and structural engineering through excavation, foundation, framing, roofing, mechanicals and the last coat of stain. You get keys, not a punch list.
Rough framing held level, straight and plumb. Lumber is inspected before it is nailed, and bad stock goes back to the supplier rather than into your building.
The mix gets chosen for a Wisconsin winter, not off a catalogue page. Laser screeded floors, foundations, walls and walkways, planned with the supplier before the truck arrives.
Clearspans with no interior columns, higher ceiling clearance and higher R-values. Noncombustible construction also tends to bring the insurance number down.

The site problems that cost money after the slab is down. Zoning checked for your particular use, and room left for the building you will need in ten years.
Zoning, environmental, utility and topography evaluation. Soil stability, drainage, stormwater management, traffic impact and the easements nobody thinks about until they bite.
Cutting cost without cutting the building. Usually the money is hiding in over-specified plumbing and lighting, and CAD models prove the saving before it is committed.

Wittman Regional Airport, Oshkosh
New terminal building. Stone and brick elevation, curved roof, and a lobby with a fireplace that people wait in before a flight.
The Club Teen Center
A curved timber and steel entrance canopy carries the whole building. It is the first thing you see from the parking lot and the reason the place reads as somewhere worth walking into.
Green Bay area, Wisconsin
A multi-building residential development, taken from bare winter ground through to finished clubhouse, kitchens and community rooms.
Fond du Lac, Wisconsin
Full office buildout, including the navy feature wall behind reception. The monogram window detail was worked out in design, not added afterwards.
Ripon, Wisconsin
A school commons built to take a few hundred students twice a day. Polished concrete floor, district colours set into the wall panels.
Northeast Wisconsin
A full franchise exterior, stacked stone facade, branded awnings and the pylon sign, built to the brand's standards and the city's.
